The city of Hiroshima, Japan was bombed on August 6, 1945 and would effect the world forever. The bomb was dropped from a B-29 bomber called the Enola Gay the name of the bomber would be remembered forever in history. When the bomb exploded 600m above the city it wreaked havoc, but the bomb missed its primary target the Aioi Bridge by almost 250 m and exploded directly over the Shima Surgical Clinic with a force of 13 kilotons of TNT. However this did not matter much because the radius of destruction for the bomb was 1.6 Km, so it was destroyed, and the force of the explosion was so great that 90% of the buildings in Hiroshima were completely destroyed and leveled, or were damaged. After the explosion the destruction ws not done because the bomb had started fires throughout the city that were burned what was still standing. The immediate deaths from the bombing of Hiroshima were staggering, almost 140,00 people and also 11 prisoners of war that were being held captive there when the bomb was dropped
Three days after the bombing of Hiroshima an even larger nuclear bomb was dropped from the B-29 bomber the Bockscar on the city of Nagasaki, and just like the bombing of Hiroshima the effects were devastating. The radius of destruction was also about 1.6 Km and the explosive force of the bomb equaled 21 kilotons of TNT, but unlike Hiroshima the fires did not wreak complete havoc on the city but were mostly contained to the northern parts and outskirts of Nagasaki. The immediate death toll was less than Hiroshima, but the bombing was still very deadly because almost 80,000 people were out right killed, and some of those casualtie were survivors from the first bombing in Hiroshima who fled to Nagasaki only to be bombed again.
Effects of Radiation from the bombings
While explosive force and fires are the main causes of casualties from nuclear bombs, there also was a much deadlier and silent force that killed many Japanese survivors even though the bomb had already detonated; Radiation. When the bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki detonated they released huge numbers of radioactive particles were released because of the materials inside the bombs in the explosions. The radiation from those bombs was very deadly and people who were close to the blast and survived the explosion, were pretty much guaranteed to die from radiation poisoning. Because the bomb released radioactive particles the particles affected a larger radius, and caused many people to get poisoned over a longer period of time and because of the exposure to radiation caused survivors to get deadly cancers such as leukemia.
Effects of the Explosion on the Environment
The environment was also effected by the bombs and the radiation caused a lot of harm to the environment. Because both bombs were detonated above the cities they released a great quantity of their radioactive particles and isotopes into the atmosphere. These particles would then rise up through the stratosphere and into the ozone layer, where the would cause great harm a deplete much needed ozone. However some of these harmful particles floated to the ground and went into the soil or water contaminating, making it un-usable and worthless.

Catarats were developed in humans after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings.
According to a clinical report, 38.3% of cataracts were suspected to have appeared after radiation expostion from the atomic bomb attacks.
It is reported that 70% of those were within 1 kilometer from the hypo center, and 30% were within 2 kilometers.
People that were able to evacuate were able to get first aid in the suburbs of Hiroshima.
However this oly provided momentarily relief, and they started to die one after the other.
Cremation could not catch up with the rate of death so they had to be buried together.
This picture shows the remains that were found in Saka township in 1952.

A girls epilation caused by radiation effects. This 11 year old girl was 2kms away from the epicenter, since she was indoors, she did not get burned.
But about a week later epilation started. Epilation is a symptom of exposure to radiation. It can occur as early as 5 days after exposure.
Fever begins a few weeks after epilation starts. Many people died of this condition. [9]
